The Philosophy of Furniture is an old book by Mario Praz, a long excursus not so much on furniture as on its ability to tell stories. Praz has been keen to say from the very first pages that he is a lover of houses and their furnishings, in fact he sees them as protagonists of human comedy, of its eternal change in repeating itself equal to itself. Praz sees the furnishings as the protagonists of the book that he loved and emulated all his life, Proust’s Recherche.
