Italian stories of travel, cities and architecture

Secco Sistemi, in conjunction with the Venice International Architecture Biennale, is sponsor of the EST exhibition, curated by Luca Molinari Studio, at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, 12 May – 18 July. An unprecedented account of the Orient of the world through the projects developed in Eastern countries by some of the major protagonists of contemporary Italian architecture; RPBW – Renzo Piano, AMDL – Michele De Lucchi, Studio Fuksas, Archea Associati, Piuarch and MC A – Mario Cucinella Architects. The project is a narrative path where each studio has been called upon to reproduce unpublished visions developed in territories that, in the last 30 years, have been characterized by profound and significant social, political and urban transformations, confronting a complex post-ideological phase that it required original visions and solutions. For each country, contemporary Italian architectural culture will be compared with the historical imagination, told through the precious materials preserved at the Giorgio Cini Foundation; volumes and maps will be exhibited for China and Vietnam accompanied by a selection of photographs by Tiziano Terzani, for Russia some projects by Giacomo Quarenghi, one of the most important Italian architects in Russia at the time of Catherine II, have been selected. The last section dedicated to Albania and Georgia will see some volumes on display, including Viagio da Venetia al Sancto Sepulcro, & al Monte Synai by Giovanni Tacuino (1523), the sixteenth-century best seller for use by the pilgrim. The path focuses on making Italian, which shuns a colonizing practice for an attitude of dialogue and assimilation of worlds other than ours, then having the ability to imagine and build significant spaces and places for the realities in which they have settled.
