The recent restoration of the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square, led by David Chipperfield Architects Milan, has brought new life to one of Venice’s most iconic buildings. The project involved the refurbishment of the first and second floors, a functional reorganization of common areas, and a careful renovation of the third floor, now home to The Human Safety Net—a Generali foundation supporting vulnerable families and communities in 23 countries worldwide. Starting May 9, the second floor will host SMAC – San Marco Art Center, a new venue for contemporary visual arts directed by Anna Bursaux, David Gramazio, and David Hrankovic. The opening program features two internationally oriented exhibitions: Migrating Modernism. The architecture of Harry Seidler, dedicated to the renowned Australian architect, and For All That Breathes On Earth. Jung Youngsun and Collaborators, a tribute to the pioneering Korean landscape architect.
